Bing’s Growing Search Market Share

September 23rd, 2009 Andreas Pfister

comScore confirmed this week what Nielsen had published already in the middle of September: Bing’s market share in the U.S. is growing continuously. Nielsen’s Top 10 Search Provider stats reveal a 10.7% market share of Bing in August, up from 9.0% in July. Less growth announced comScore’s U.S. Core Search Report: Microsoft Search Sites could increase their US market share only from 8.9% in July to 9.3% in August.

According to comScore Bing received 7% more search queries in August than in July. Nielsen even talks about a 22% increase in search queries. Although the numbers differ significantly, we can see a positive trend for Bing. It seems as if Microsoft’s huge marketing budget could actually make an impact and accelerate Bing’s adoption.

Nevertheless, there is still a long way to the top. Google is in the U.S. still far away on position number and that won’t change anytime soon.
