Local Business Ads Series – Part 3: What is the Google Local Business Center

June 17th, 2009 Andreas Pfister

So far we have talked about Local Search Marketing and its benefits. In this post we have a look at a very important tool in terms of Local Search Marketing: The Google Local Business Center. Remember, this series explains how to use Google Local Business Ads (LBA) to promote specific business locations on Google Maps, Google Search and across Google’s content network so that people can find your business when they are looking either directly for your business, or a product/service which you offer.

Before you can create a LBA campaign, your business needs to be registered in Google’s Local Business Center first. The registration is free and gives you the opportunity to appear in the natural search results when users do a local search for keywords which are relevant to your business. The screenshot below shows the results page for a search on Google Maps for “museum new york”. Note how the screen is divided into free and paid listings. The sponsored links (=Local Business Ads) can be located on the top and on the right hand side below the map while the results in the central part of the SERP are free listings (=Local Business Center).
